The Minister of Public Works, delivered a poignant instruction that balanced deep appreciation for the workforce with a stern demand for systemic reform to better the roads in the country.
This was during a road project review held and chaired this morning by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, in the presence of his close collaborators and all the stakeholders involved in the execution of infrastructure. The overall works on this road are significantly advancing with a physical progress rate estimated at 45% as of 2nd May 2026.
Stakeholders and the Ministry of Public Works are optimistic after a review of progress on the rehabilitation works on the Buea-Mermoz-Sasse-Wotutu-Limbe.
According to the construction company, Chariot Company Ltd, the work is fast advancing to a turn of 45% what has been done so far is the construction of gutters, drainage systems has been improved particularly from Mermoz Hotel to the Catholic Cathedral, soil compacting has been done with gravel and as of now 0/31.5 has been sticked through PK 00 to PK 03 to 0089 given a small portion to be completed before the tarring process begins.
The rehabilitation works on the 15km road stretch linking Buea-Mermoz-Sasse-Wotutu-Mile 4-Limbe in the South West Region, is part of a broader, accelerated effort to improve road infrastructure in the Fako Division.
It should be noted that this project starts around Buea Mermoz through Sasse and, Wotutu ending at Mile 4 in Limbe. The 15km road, which has been in poor condition for years has been transformed in less than a year.
The road has historically been a challenging route, sometimes cited for having numerous checkpoints and being in a state of degradation due to heavy, rainy-season traffic, but for some weeks now the work done on the field has improved accessibility and relieved traffic congestion between the municipal capital of Buea and the industrial city of Limbe.
The Minister gave his encouragement and reassured the construction company and the team to continue working in synergy, and he will remedy their financial situation. He asked the contractor to respect the deadline stipulated in the contract. MINTP instructed the team to produced a chronograph plan of work and submit to him.
