Halfway into the 2026 Annual Work Plan (AWP) implementation, the Engineering Structures Division reports a performance deemed satisfactory, as seven projects met set targets. These include the bridges over River Nyong at Malombo, River Mahe, replacement of pipe culverts by box culverts on National Road No. 3 (Phase 3, Lot 1), bank protection works for the Mayo-Limani, as well as the Nchiayang, Ngalla, and Bafut-Wum bridges.

Of the 28 projects included in the 2026 AWP under the Engineering Structures Division responsibility, two are in the preparatory phase, while seven have met their mid-term targets. The bridge over River Nyong at Malombo stands out, as construction has been completed and delivery expected, nine months ahead of the contractual deadline. Other high-performing projects are also progressing satisfactorily.

However, the assessment highlighted constraints slowing down the execution of several other projects. These include limited mobilisation of certain contractors, delays in contracting and notification procedures, payment issues, security constraints, and technical challenges specific to the construction of certain structures.
At the conclusion of the review, the Minister of Public Works mandated measures to improve performance. These measures include systematic inspection of structures exceeding 70 linear metres, anticipating rehabilitation needs, accelerating contracting procedures, notifying consulting firms, signing orders to commencement works, strengthening contractor mobilisation, and intensifying works execution.
A review of the Engineering Structures Division’s portfolio reveals that new interventions are under way, including detailed inspections of the bridge over River Sanaga at Ebebda and other long-span structures.
